In Alaska there are two sayings that you often hear.  First, it isn't whether or not you should wear a coat/jacket but which one.  This is true all year around.  Second, not even the rain stops Alaskans.  Having lived in Texas and in Colorado where it REALLY rains, there is a reason the rain doesn't stop Alaskans.  We have rarely seen it do anything more than drizzle.  So for our rafting trip on Saturday we donned our jackets, hats, and life vests to battle the drizzle and gray skys while floating about 7 miles down one long, twisty, lazy river. 

 

We didn't have to worry about snakes or rapids, just sweepers.  There were many log jams and trees in the river.  At one point we hit a something so hard and it was so loud we (the mom's in the boat) thought it had punctured our float.  We were hung up for a few minutes but were able to get loose and luckily there was no damage. 

We stopped for lunch on a sandbar.  The kids wanted to stop and explore evey one.   It took us 5 hours to float down.  It was so peaceful and relaxing.  For much of the trip it felt as if we were in the middle of a large wilderness but occasionally we would catch a glimpse of a house or cabin.
