We loved having Eric's mom and sister visit this week. They must have brought some sunshine with them because we had a few days that were really nice. Any day that got over 65 N. & H. wanted to hang out in the pool. The water is so cold that they usually run around for a few minutes then jump out to get warm. We decided to try floats. It was still pretty cold and Aunt Tammy suggested wet suits. We thought that was a super idea.
We did not do much sightseeing. We did decide to drive a little town called Whittier. In order to get there you must drive through a 2.5 mile tunnel. The day before Grandma and Aunt Tammy arrived we experienced our largest and longest earthquake to date. It last almost 30 seconds and the house swayed. Just as we were thinking it was time to take cover, it ended. As we drove through the tunnel I couldn't help but think about earthquakes. It rained the entire time we were in Whittier and we did not stay long. But Aunt Sally and her friend Pam really enjoyed visiting on a sunny day. It cost $12 to go through the tunnel so if you decide to see Whittier make sure it's a sunny day.
There are some waterfalls and glaciers that are beautiful no matter the weather, so if rain is your only option, it still might be worth the trip.
We also took our visitors to Anchorage to see Earthquake Park, Potters Marsh, and while driving to Whittier saw Portage Glacier. Tammy really wanted to see a moose but they just didn't want to be seen. Eric was persistant and finally found moose while driving them to the airport. It was hard to say goodbye. We miss getting together with family regularly.
