Battle of the Books

Hailey came home a few months ago and asked if she could try out for the Battle of the Books team.  She had a list of 15 books to read and she met every Monday with the librarian at her school and everyone trying out.  They took a test to determine who would be on the team and Hailey made it.  She was so excited.  Yesterday was the district meet.  They competed in 4 rounds against two other teams each round.  They answered 12 questions each round.  We thought they did a really good job and were just proud of their good sportmanship and hard work.  But when the award ceremony started we knew they had placed.  The 8th place team had 312 points.  We held our breath and waited.  With each award being announced our cute little team got more and more excited.  When the 2nd place teams were announced at 342 points (tie).  We knew our girls had won the meet.  With 352 points they tied another team (out of 59 teams total) for first place.  Only one team can represent the district in the state event so they are having 1 round on Friday to break the tie.  Oh the suspense!  We are so proud of Hailey and the two other girls on her team!
