Going Urban

We decided to go to First Night to see art work done by one of Eric's co workers. We have done First Night before but not in this part of the city. Eric could not remember the name of the art gallery nor the exact cross streets, but he had a general idea. This always make a evening more fun. We saw parts of our city we have never ventured into before and probably never will again. Eric noticed a large warehouse looking building with a sign that said "Gallery". There were tons of cars parked around this gallery and he decided this must be the place. We walked around the warehouse -no door. So we walked a long flight of stairs to the top floor where we could see a man that appeared to be sitting at a desk. When we got to the top, it was man sitting at his dining room table. Too late, he and his very large dog noticed the silly suburban family of four standing at the top of stairs. He told us where a few art gallery's were and we went back to our car. We found the gallery - Eric couldn't remember the kind of art his friend did, but I knew the minute we walked in the door this was graffiti on canvas - Urban Art. We were so out of place. However, we found some paintings we enjoyed and received a history of the origination of this type of art. Apparently when you become too old to do graffiti on city buildings because you can be charged as adult - you switch to canvas and try to sell your art. After browsing and chatting we stopped at a large skate park to watch the action. Both our children fell fast asleep on the way home.

Nathan had his fifth birthday party - the theme was an eyeball. We played "Pin the eyeball on the face", had an "Eyeball on a spoon relay" and played musical pillows. The best game however was big brother Nolan who had a pillow fight and wrestling match with the kids. He is such a good sport. Big sister Leisel helped out too. Nathan has been waiting for this day since his last birthday and now that it is past I know we will hear "When is my birthday?" everyday for the next 364 days. I can't believe my "baby" is now 5 years old and starting Kindergarten in August. Where did the time go? He is so much like his dad and such a fun part of our family. He brings a lot of laughter to our home. He has said his talent is being funny. Although I wish he could be serious once in awhile his light hearted attitude, along with dad's keeps our home balanced.
Best advice from my children this week: "Don't ever leave Dad; he knows everything".
